ICE detains Israeli national for visa overstay

AN Israeli national, Ariel Shtul, has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for overstaying his visa.

“They’re doing their job,” he said when asked for comment. He said he overstayed his visa because of “unfinished business on the island,” but did not elaborate.

Shtul was seen entering an ICE office facility Wednesday morning in Gualo Rai for immigration court proceedings with two other detainees while being escorted by ICE agents.

Authorities did not allow reporters into the immigration proceedings because of limited space and security concerns.

The Saipan Immigration Courtroom in Lower Base was inoperational after being affected by Super Typhoon Sinlaku, Variety learned.

More details to follow.
