TINIAN (Press Release) — The Ohala Foundation, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, proudly announces the successful delivery of nutritious food boxes to homebound patients on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025. This initiative reflects the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable community members — including the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and patients with limited mobility.
Each food box was assembled with care, combining shelf-stable essentials and healthy ingredients to ensure nourishment. The effort was made possible through strong collaboration and generous volunteer support.
The Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to Tinian Health Center for overseeing applications, verifying eligibility, and ensuring accurate and timely patient information, as well as to The Tinian Manamko’ Center for coordinating delivery routes and helping ensure every homebound patient was reached. The Ohala Foundation also gratefully recognizes the dedicated Arley Long and the volunteers from Tinian Isla Community Health, whose teamwork, compassion, and hard work were essential in organizing and distributing the food boxes to those most in need. We would also like to extend our appreciation to the Bank of Guam for being a legacy annual donor whose continued support helps the Foundation serve the community.
Special recognition
The Foundation gives its deepest gratitude to the military volunteers from Det Tinian Seabees of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133 and Det Tinian Marines of the 7th Engineer Support Battalion, who played an essential role in their off-duty time throughout the entire operation. These dedicated service members supported every step of the process — from packing and preparing the food boxes, to assisting with delivery operations, to providing critical vehicle support that enabled the safe transport of food boxes. Their commitment ensured that every single food box reached the individuals who needed it most, including those living in remote or difficult-to-access locations. Their dedication, professionalism, and community spirit greatly strengthened the success of this program.
“Our volunteers truly represent the heart of this community,” said Phillip Mendiola-Long, president of the Ohala Foundation. “The united efforts of healthcare teams, volunteers, and military servicemembers ensured that every homebound patient received nourishment, care, and connection.”
The Ohala Foundation welcomes ongoing support from community members, organizations, and businesses. Donations directly fund food supplies, transportation, and volunteer coordination, expanding the Foundation’s ability to reach more individuals in need.
