C/CPT Edmar Tirona from the Tinian High School Army JROTC Stallion Battalion has recently been accepted into the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point.
C/CPT Tirona has been part of JROTC since his freshman year and has shown strong dedication and leadership throughout high school. He currently serves as the Battalion S2 security and intelligence officer and has held this position through two change of command ceremonies. His acceptance into West Point is a major achievement and reflects the hard work, discipline, and leadership he has developed over the years.
West Point, New York, is one of the most respected military academies in the country. Cadets there take college level classes while also training physically and learning leadership and military skills. Graduates earn a college degree and are commissioned as officers in the United States Army. Getting accepted is extremely competitive, making this accomplishment even more impressive.
When asked about being accepted into West Point, Tirona said, “I was honestly shocked when I found out I had been accepted into the United States Military Academy at West Point. I felt a huge sense of relief knowing that all my hard work throughout high school… had finally paid off.”
He added, “I know that spending the next four years in a military environment will be challenging, but I am excited to take on those challenges,” and shared that he is especially proud to represent Tinian and the CNMI at such a respected institution.
When asked what sparked his interest in West Point, Tirona explained, “Going into high school and joining my school’s Army JROTC program introduced me to the values of discipline, leadership, and service.” He also said that seeing older peers accepted into service academies motivated him to pursue the same path.
Tirona shared that what helped him most in earning an appointment was being well rounded. “Throughout high school, I focused on doing my best academically, physically, participating in extracurricular activities, and taking on leadership roles,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of support from others, saying, “My accomplishment would not have been possible without the unwavering support I received from my parents, teachers, instructors, and school staff.”
C/CPT Tirona’s accomplishment reflects the support he has received from his family, teachers, and the instructors of the Tinian High School Army JROTC program. His story also shows how the program helps students develop leadership skills and prepare for future opportunities.
The Stallion Battalion and its instructors proudly congratulate C/CPT Edmar Tirona on this achievement.
“We wish you continued success in everything you do! Hooah!”
