(DPS) — On March 27, 2026, at approximately 5:21 p.m., officers with the Department of Public Safety responded to a reported auto-pedestrian crash along Beach Road in San Jose at the CEDA building pedestrian crosswalk.
Upon arrival, responding officers determined that a 69-year-old male pedestrian had been crossing west to east within a marked crosswalk. Vehicles traveling in the southbound lanes had stopped and activated their hazard lights to allow the pedestrian to cross safely.
As the pedestrian continued across, a white Toyota Prius traveling southbound moved into the center lane from the inner lane and struck the pedestrian. The impact caused the pedestrian to strike the front windshield before being thrown onto the roadway.
The pedestrian was conscious and alert when officers arrived on scene, but complained of head pain and sustained visible abrasions to his left arm. He was transported by DFEMS emergency medical personnel to the CHCC Emergency Room, where he is currently listed in stable condition and admitted for further treatment.
The driver of the vehicle, a 63-year-old male, was cited for multiple traffic violations.
Alcohol was not determined to be a factor in the crash. The vehicle involved was towed from the scene and impounded.
This incident remains under active investigation.
