The government said last month it will offer 2,500 visas to workers from Kiribati, Tonga, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea to do horticultural work.
The Essential Research poll found 51 percent of respondents approved of the three-year pilot scheme and 34 percent disapproved.
Fifty-nine percent of Labor voters supported the move, compared with 45 percent of coalition voters and 73 percent of Australian Greens voters.
Higher-income earners were more likely to approve, with 61 percent of respondents earning more than $1,600 a week in favor. The online survey of 1,018 respondents was conducted from Aug. 25 to 31.
