Make-A-Wish to hold fund-raiser on Saturday

HOW far can your $25 go these days?

A dinner and a raffle ticket at the fund-raising event of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and a chance to make a difference in the lives of children with life-threatening illnesses.

Jovyna Sarmiento, executive director of Make-A-Wish-Foundation of Guam, said the proceeds of the fund-raising event scheduled for June 22, Saturday, at the Kammer Beach on Tinian will go a long way to help terminally ill children realize their dreams.

“As a charity, we obtain no subsidies from the government. We are totally relying on individuals and companies making donations. This dinner/raffle event will help us accomplish our mission,” Sarmiento said.

Adults must pay $25 each and children $10 each to join the dinner-raffle event.

The event promises a wonderful sunset dinner made up of delectable local dishes and a night-long entertainment, Sarmiento said.

Adding excitement to the event is the raffle draw—winners can take home grocery certificates, tickets for a dinner show, airline tickets, hotel reservations, an original NFL football with the signature of a famous football player, lunch and dinner tickets and other gift certificates.

Sarmiento said the local community’s involvement on projects of the Make-A-Wish-Foundation has surged over the last 12 months but they are still recruiting more volunteers.

The foundation is also constantly soliciting help from donors who want to share their resources, either in cash or kind.

Dozens of terminally ill children in the Marianas had already benefited from the foundation. Their wishes vary but most wanted to visit Disneyland to meet their favorite cartoon characters.

The fund-raiser will be the first of its kind on Tinian.

Sarmiento said interested individuals can contact their office at (671) 649-WISH or send an e-mail to [email protected]. They can also visit the foundation’s official Web site: .
