Malae: More training for CUC personnel

Recently, power division line foreman  Leeroy K. Greenman and trade technician Ibutirang Mongami completed a three-week training session on Guam.

Malae said he will “continue to find more ways to develop and enhance our employee skills and our services.”

The two employees underwent training on substation maintenance through the collaborative efforts of the Guam Power Authority and CUC.

CUC power division manager Gary Camacho said the training from Feb. 7 to 26 was conducted by AVO Training Institute at the GPA facility.

“GPA and CUC have a good working relationship.  They offered to invite and include CUC in the training planned for their own staff,” he said.

Camacho said the substation maintenance training is part of an ongoing program with GPA.

“CUC and GPA have discussed other areas of training for our personnel such as the next level for substation maintenance and underground cable repairs,” he said.

CUC has two substations on Saipan: one at Power Plant 1 and the other in Chalan Kiya.

Mongami said the training brought together 30 individuals with similar professions.

“Our training was based on maintaining electrical equipment and practicing safety.  We were taught the latest and safest methods currently used in our line of work,” he said.

Greenman said the training covered topics ranging from electrical safety for utilities, switch gear maintenance and testing and transformer gas testing.

“We learned a lot during the three-week training.  I am excited to use and share the new techniques I learned as well as the materials that we brought back with my co-workers so that we all can apply them in our daily assignments,” he said.
