Man arrested for beating common-law wife

Arrested for assault and battery, assault with a deadly weapon and interfering with a domestic violence report was George R. Aguon.

Detective Andrea Ozawa, in an affidavit, said they received the domestic incident report at 10:07 p.m. on July 16.

Ozawa said police officers were immediately dispatched to the Commonwealth Health Center where the victim was brought due to the injuries she sustained from Aguon’s beating.

The couple had an argument about clothes earlier that evening after doing their laundry.

During their argument, Aguon picked up a knife, pulled the victim’s hair and pressed the knife on her neck while threatening to kill her, Ozawa said.

She added that  the suspect punched the victim’s face “very hard,” causing her to black out.

The victim’s face was swollen and bleeding when she was brought to the hospital. She sustained multiple injuries to the head and face, including a laceration to her lip and a fracture to her cheek bone.

Based on statements from a witness, Aguon punched the victim’s face four times.

When the witness started to call for police assistance, Aguon chopped the phone line with the same knife he used to threaten to kill the victim.

The witness had to run out of the house to a nearby store to call the police. It was also learned that an 8-year-old child witnessed the beating.

Aguon had already fled and was at large when the police responded but he surrendered to the Criminal Investigation Division office at about 8:30 a.m. on July 17, accompanied by a family member.

Ozawa requests the court to set a bail of $5,000.
