Man arrested for burglary and theft

At the scene, police met with the owner of the establishment who told officers that when he woke up he noticed a notification from the security system indicating that at about 1 a.m., one of the restaurant’s doors was opened. Surveillance footage showed an individual later identified as a former employee of the establishment, Timothy Kapileo, walking into the restaurant and placing bottles of liquor into a trash can.

Based on an inventory of the establishment, vacuumed packed fish and alcohol/liquor with an estimated value of about $1,900 were missing.

Police in the area were notified to be on the lookout for Kapileo. Later that day Kapileo was found at a beach pavilion at Paupau Beach with the restaurant’s missing items. The owner of the establishment positively identified that the items belonged to the restaurant.

At about 3:35 p.m., Kapileo was arrested and advised of his Miranda rights before being transported to Kanoa Resort for Covid-19 clearance. He was then brought to the Department of Corrections where he was booked and detained.

Further investigation revealed that Kapileo was with another male individual in the vehicle. The other individual said he did not know that Kapileo broke into the restaurant. Police are looking into his claim.

On Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020, at about 1:54 p.m., Judge Joseph Camacho issued a Rule 5 for the charges of burglary and theft with bail set at $25,000. On the same day, Kapileo was served Rule 5 at about 2:21 p.m.
