Man arrested for punching wife’s face

Acting Department of Public Safety information officer PO2 Jason T. Tarkong said DPS received a call regarding a domestic violence incident and disturbance at about 4:51 a.m. on March 13 at a residence in Upper Miha.

Tarkong said Police Officer Joseph Muna who responded to the scene met the victim who said she was assaulted by her husband. The victim had a bruised and swollen cheek.

The victim, who is in her mid-30s, told police that she and her children were sleeping in their house when the suspect arrived at about 4:30 a.m.

The suspect woke them all up and told the children to sleep in the living room.

He then attempted to undress the victim who resisted. The suspect got angry, twisted the victim’s leg and punched her in the face, the victim said.

The victim added that the suspect grabbed an electric fan and threw it at her.

He also got hold of a machete and threatened her with it, the victim said.

The suspect punched the walls and closet doors in the bedroom, she added.

The victim said the children saw everything that happened.

She finally succeeded in seeking help from a neighbor who called the police for assistance.

The suspect fled on foot before the police arrived.

Tarkong said while Officer Muna was interviewing the victim, he heard dogs barking outside the house.

He went out to investigate and discovered the suspect crouching behind banana plants.

 He arrested the suspect for assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace.
