Man arrested for sexually abusing niece

Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona Manglona yesterday imposed a $25,000 bail on  John P. Cabrera Jr. who was charged with assault and battery, and sexual assault in the first degree.

In his declaration of probable cause in support of the issuance of an arrest warrant, Detective Kioni C. Cruz said after the victim was sexually abused on Nov. 9,  she sought the help of a firefighter.

The victim said she was in their kitchen brushing her teeth, when Cabrera came from behind and started sexually abusing her.

The victim told police that from the time Cabrera moved back to Tinian in 2008 up to present, he had sexually assaulted her more than 50 times.

The victim said Cabrera would wait for her mother to leave their house in the morning to drop off her brother to school before sexually assaulting her.

The victim said she had been fighting off Cabrera’s sexual advances.

The victim told police that she wanted to report Cabrera’s sexual assaults but she was “too ashamed” because he is her uncle.

“I’ll talk to [him] to stop,” the victim quoted Cabrera’s wife as telling her after she told her about his sexual assaults.

Police arrested Cabrera on Wednesday.
