Joshua I. Martin was arrested on allegation that he forged the check. His bail was set at $1,000.
According to Detective Jeffrey I. Norita, Hedwig Hofschneider who on April 7 lost an Oakley bag which contained a silver Inspiron Dell laptop, two personal checks from Bank of Hawaii and a check from NMC amounting to $60.91 reported to police that he saw the presumed suspects in a burglary and theft incident at the New World Market.
Hofschneider also lost his mother’s electric cigarette with a charger inside a black box placed on the kitchen counter during the burglary.
The suspects gained entry into his house by tearing the screen and removing three louvers in the laundry room.
The day after the incident, Hofschneider said he saw Martin and another young man receiving change after buying items using the stolen NMC check.
Police went to the store and invited for questioning Martin and Jose Duenas.
Martin said he found the stolen E-Health cigarette box behind the Bank of Guam at Afetnas Square and inside the box was a folded envelope containing the BOH and NMC checks, which he used and signed to buy items at the store.
When questioned, Duenas said Martin stopped by his grandmother’s house and showed the electronic cigarette device.
