Man dies in Chalan Kiya auto crash

A 75-year-old man died after his vehicle swerved off the roadway and overturned along 16th Highway in Chalan Kiya on Monday afternoon.

Santiago M. Aguon was pronounced dead on arrival at the Commonwealth Health Center at 2:17 p.m. on the same day, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The DPS spokesman, Police Lt. Pete C. Muna, said when responding traffic officers arrived at the scene, Aguon was found trapped inside the overturned 1990 Toyota Hilux. Muna said emergency medical technicians used tools to extricate the victim from the totally damaged vehicle.

Initial investigation showed that Aguon was driving the pick-up truck headed east on the outer lane of the highway when the vehicle swerved to the right.

The vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a concrete wall of a drainage and overturned.

Aguon’s truck hit two other vehicles—a Mazda pick-up and Toyota Corolla—which were unoccupied and parked side by side in the area.
