Superior Court Judge Kenneth L. Govendo retained the $4,250 cash bail he earlier imposed on Charles S. Rechesengel, 42, who is being held on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace.
Govendo remanded Rechesengel to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the initial appearance and bail hearing on Wednesday.
On July 5, at about 12:44 a.m., police were dispatched to the Ben Basa barracks in Chalan Kanoa regarding a domestic disturbance call.
Responding police officers met the victim who suffered a bleeding, swollen lip.
Prior to the incident, Rechesengel and his friends were outside the barracks drinking beer to celebrate Liberation Day.
The victim told police she had an argument with Rechesengel regarding drinking with his former girlfriend and her former boyfriend.
During the ensuing argument Rechesengel hit the victim’s mouth with the bottle he was holding.
Rechesengel continued shouting bad words to the victim who then left the area to call for police assistance.
