Man in domestic case arrested while filling up cop’s vehicle with gas

Detective Peter Aldan is the case agent for a domestic violence case involving Ada, 32, and his friend Melvin Basa, 37.

Basa has already been arrested  by the Department of Public Safety and is under the custody of the Department of Corrections.

DPS acting spokesman PO2 Jason Tarkong said on Tuesday night, at 10:10 p.m., Aldan parked his assigned car near a gas pump and was served by Ada.

After confirming Ada’s identity, Aldan served the warrant on the pump attendant, placed him under arrest and took him into custody at 10:22 p.m., Tarkong said.

Ada was convicted in federal court on Feb. 29, 2000, with one count of taking a motor vehicle transported in foreign commerce with the intent to cause bodily injury, and one count of affecting commerce by robbery.

Basa and Ada, on separate vehicles, went to the residence of Basa’s wife on Saturday night.

While looking for his wife, an altercation ensued, and Basa attempted to stab both his in-laws.

Ada joined his friend in looking for the wife, police said.

“If I go to jail, you guys will see!” Ada was quoted by Aldan as telling his friend’s wife and in-laws over the phone on Nov. 30.

The Superior Court set a $100,000 cash bail for Basa whose previous cases included escaping from prison, burglary and sexual abuse of a child.

A $25,000 bail was imposed on Ada.
