Man in ‘ice’ case arrested for violating curfew

Detective Dennis M. Reyes said King, 30, violated his 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew on Feb. 18, at about 10:15 p.m.

King is being held on the charge of contempt of court.

Police said Tinian police officers Kerry Borja, Eugene Mendiola and Peter Palacios Jr. conducted a random check on King at his residence.

The defendant’s son met the police and told that his father was at his “Uncle Patrick’s house,” referring to Tinian Municipal Council Chairman Patrick Manglona.

When asked the same question, the defendant’s partner reiterated what her son told the police.

While at the defendant’s residence, police saw a green SUV that was usually operated by King  parked at the neighbor’s house.

About five minutes later, a silver sedan owned by the same neighbor pulled over into the property, police said.

Vincent King, the neighbor, approached the police and said the defendant had been at his residence, sleeping since 8 p.m.

The defendant later came out and confirmed what Vincent King had told police.

At about 10:55 p.m. on the same day, the officers arrived at Patrick Manglona’s residence where they spoke with Melvin Cruz who said that Kurt King had been there since 4 p.m. and left at 7 or 8 p.m.

“When asked what they were doing during those hours they were there, Cruz told the officers they were drinking alcoholic beverages,” Reyes said.

Judge Kenneth L. Govendo retained the $3,000 cash bail imposed on Kurt King during his initial appearance and bail hearing yesterday.

The defendant was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections.

In April 2010, Kurt King and his co-defendant Baron Dela Cruz were arrested by the Joint Drug Enforcement Task Force on charges of illegal possession of controlled substance, and trafficking of controlled substance.

They have denied the charges and are on pretrial release. Their jury trial was scheduled for April 11, 2011.

Last December, jurors found Kurt King not guilty of raping a woman in 2009.
