Man in immigration fraud gets suspended jail term

Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona  placed Sotero Litulumar Teregeyo under several court conditions after he plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit immigration fraud.

The defendant is placed on probation for three years and was ordered to report to the Office of Adult Probation.

He must keep all scheduled appointments with his probation officer, pay a fine of $2,000 and assessment fee of $100 within 30 days. He will also perform 70 hours of community work service and obey all commonwealth and federal laws.

The defendant appeared for a change of plea hearing on June 3 with Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke.

The commonwealth was represented by Assistant Attorney General Kathleen Busenkell.

Following the plea agreement, the court dismissed the other charges against the defendant.

Teregeyo was charged with conspiracy in arranging  marriage fraud so that his co-defendant, 32-year-old Mizanaur Rahman of Chalan Kanoa could get  permanent residency in the CNMI.

The prosecution stated that on Feb. 2005 through May 18, 2005, the two defendants agreed to arrange a marriage between Rahman and Teregeyo’s daughter.

The complaint stated that Rahman paid Teregeyo a sum of money in exchange for arranging marriage with his daughter. The marriage took place on May 18, 2005.
