Man in vehicular homicide case to start serving 6-month term in August

The 22-year-old Palacios has signed a plea agreement, admitting the offense of vehicular homicide that occurred in the early morning of April 1, 2009.

Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona sentenced Palacios to three years, all suspended except for six month.

The judge also credited two days already served by Palacios at the corrections facility.

As part of the plea agreement, the court dismissed with prejudice the remaining counts: driving under the influence, reckless driving, and driving on right side of the highway.

Palacios will write a letter of apology to the family members of the victim, Aniceto T. Taitano, that must be submitted within 30 days of incarceration.

Palacios will pay a $1,000 fine, restitution to Annie Teregeyo in an amount not to exceed $16,438, and to Stephen Limes in an amount not to exceed $10,182.96, and a court assessment fee of $100.

Palacios will be placed on five years probation and perform 100 hours of community work service.

He will appear at all Public School System high schools and “discuss the consequences of drinking and driving,” the judge said.

Assistant Attorney General Brian Gallagher prosecuted the case while Assistant Public Defender Richard Miller served as Palacios’ counsel.
