Man on probation arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon

Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo set a $10,000 cash bail for the temporary liberty of Jeffrey Celis.

Police did not disclose what Celis’s previous case was.

The defendant was represented by Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke while Assistant Attorney General Brian Gallagher appeared on behalf of the government during the bail hearing on Monday.

Govendo set the preliminary hearing for Aug. 31 and the arraignment for Sept. 7.

In his affidavit, Police Officer Peter Raymond Camacho said DPS central received a call from Northern Islands Mayor Valentino Taisacan at 1:15 p.m. on Aug. 15, regarding a disturbing the peace incident in the Koblerville housing area.

Responding police officers met the victim, Carlos Marcelino Jr., and learned that Juan S. Ada Jr. , a co-defendant in this case, told Marcelino to get into his car.

Celis also got into the car and asked Marcelino about the projector he, the victim, took, police said.

Marcelino replied that he did not have the projector.

He said at this point, Ada got upset and began swearing and cussing at him.

Marcelino said when he got out of the car, Celis chased him with a knife which the victim described to be about 12 inches long.

The victim said Celis tried to stab him but he managed to dodge and ran away.

He said Celis then started throwing rocks at him.

Marcelino sought refuge at Taisacan’s house.

After Celis reversed the car and hit a tree, Ada  took over the wheel and they drove away just before the police arrived.

Police said Ada has been arrested in the past for drug-related offenses.
