Sofiul Alam appeared for a change of plea hearing in Superior Court on Tinian and was represented by Assistant Public Defender Janet King.
Assistant Attorney General Rebecca Warfield agreed to dismiss the other charge — interfering with a domestic violence report.
Associate Judge David A. Wiseman accepted the plea and sentenced Alam to one year of imprisonment, all suspended except for the first four days with four days credit for time already served, from Sept. 18 to 21, 2007.
Sofiul was placed on supervised probation for one year and was ordered to perform 60 hours of community work service.
He will submit an apology letter to the victim and was ordered not to have altercation with her.
He will complete anger management and alcohol abuse counseling at the Community Guidance Center.
Moreover, he will pay a 200 fine, a $25 court assessment fee, and a probation fee whose amount will be assessed by the Adult Probation Office.
The $200 bail he posted on Sept. 24, 2007 will be applied to fine.
His review hearing was set for Nov. 14 on Tinian.
Alam was charged for pulling the hair of his domestic partner and for pushing her to the ground in the presence of her children.
