Tiberke was brought before Superior Court Judge David A. Wiseman for his initial appearance and bail hearing yesterday afternoon.
Wiseman reduced to $6,500 the $50,000 bail earlier imposed by Judge Perry Inos.
Tiberke is being held on charges of disturbing the peace, assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief.
Tiberke was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the hearing.
Assistant Attorney General Brian Gallagher represented the government while Assistant Public Defender Adam Miles was appointed by the court as Tiberke’s counsel.
Detective Catherine Pangelinan said that on June 8, 2011, at about 9 p.m., police were dispatched to San Vicente, where a man was reported to be chasing the caller with a machete.
When police officers approached Tiberke who was seen chasing the victim with a machete, Tiberke told them to not enter his property, and that he had a “problem” with his wife.
When police told Tiberke to calm down, the defendant struggled and a responding officer pepper-sprayed the defendant who was finally handcuffed.
The victim told police that she, her infant son and the defendant were supposed to go to her mother’s residence in Kagman, but Tiberke said he had “to go somewhere with his boys,” Pangelinan said.
Tiberke slapped her partner during their argument, police said.
As the victim was calling a relative to pick her up, Tiberke grabbed a machete from their car, pointed it toward the victim, and told her to go inside their house.
The victim got scared because she was carrying her baby as Tiberke continued threatening to kill her, Pangelinan said.
“Tiberke was shouting…that the only way her son would leave the area would be in a casket,” the victim told police.
Another domestic incident
In other news, Wiseman retained the $1,250 cash bail imposed on John West Teregeyo who had been arrested for a domestic incident.
Wiseman scheduled a bail modification hearing for Teregeyo, 39, today.
Teregeyo is being held on charges of disturbing the peace, and assault and battery.
Detective Pangelinan said Teregeyo was arrested after police responded to a domestic incident in Koblerville on June 9, 2011, at about 10:46 p.m.
Police said Teregeyo arrived at the residence drunk at about 9 p.m. and started cussing his partner.
“Do you want me to beat you up?” Pangelinan quoted Teregeyo as telling his partner.
Without any reason, Teregeyo slapped his partner, Pangelinan said.
Responding officers saw Teregeyo holding a knife. The defendant was ordered to put down the weapon or the police would pepper spray him.
Wiseman remanded Teregeyo to the custody of Corrections after his initial appearance and bail hearing.
Assistant Attorney General Gallagher represented the government.
