Last week, the Korean group provided free haircuts to the manamko’ at the Office of the Aging in Garapan.
Chil Lye, who led the team, said they serve 20 senior citizens during their free haircut service that they conduct every two months.
This week, Lye said their group will offer hair curling.
Macaranas said the Korean group has been supporting the activities of the manamko’ and has contributed to the welfare of each senior citizen.
Fidel Alomia and Carlito Hernandez, who availed of the free haircuts, said they were satisfied with the service provided to them.
“It’s like getting a haircut from a parlor,” Alomia said.
Macaranas said he likes to see the manamko’ receiving assistance from different non-governmental organizations.
He noted that the manamko’ have been in the forefront in efforts to preserve local culture and traditions.
Last week, he said, the manamko’ joined the Cultural Day celebration of San Antonio Elementary School.
The senior citizens taught the children how to create mwar and other traditional crafts.
“We want to have this connection with the people,” Macaranas said. “We don’t want them to be left behind.”
Senior citizens, he added, should be actively participating in community events and issues.
“We want the manamko’ to blend with the community,” he said.
