FSM holds congressional, state elections

The election is for the members of the FSM National Congress, Chuuk’s governor and lt. governor, and Pohnpei’s constitutional convention delegates.

Chuuk Gov. Wesley Simina is running against Gillian Doone and Redley Killion.

Chuuk election officer Koichiro Koichiy said the number of registered voters on Saipan has decreased but “we are still hoping for a good turnout.”

The polling center opened at 7 a.m. and closed at 7 p.m.

Koichiy said after the counting of ballots, the ballot box will be flown to Chuuk.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, less than 50 percent of the total registered voters had cast their votes.

For Northern Namones, comprising Weno, Piis Paneu and Fono, only 56 of the 142 registered voters had cast their ballots.

Own Cholymay, Northern Namones poll officer; expected more voters heading to the polling center after work hours.

Mortlock poll officer Aikichy Lepuach said some registered voters were not able to vote because their names were not on the master list.
