Maratita has been busy preparing for the competition. Selection of the evening gown, swimsuit, and national costume is essential to get the eye of the judges.
“We’ve been practicing my walks and my make up sessions. The costume is more to remind the people where I am from. It should present the scenery, the greens, and the flowers of the islands,” she said.
The pageant will take place at the Sichuan International Tennis Hotel, Chengdu, Sichuan, China on Nov. 28.
More than 60 beauty queens from different countries will compete for the title.
The first and second runners-up as well as a Miss Friendship and Best in Costume will also be chosen.
“We’ve been set up to do different things. Day by day we’re going to be up and early and going around,” Maratita said.
She makes sure she is in top shape by sleeping eight hours a day, drinking lots of water, and eating the right food.
When asked if she is bringing any lucky charm to China she said, “I usually just pray, that’s my lucky charm.”
She admits she is excited and nervous at the same time knowing that she will represent the CNMI in an international competition.
“Everyday I’m going to do my best. Of course I’m going to be observed by the crowd and the contestants but I’m not going to forget where I came from and I will be who I am because I am representing the CNMI and that’s what I should portray there,” she said.
