Masga denies drug charges

Masga has been placed on house arrest and released from the custody of the Department of Corrections after posting a $60,000 property bond and promising to attend all his court hearings.

He has been charged with trafficking and possession of “ice.”

Superior Court Judge Kenneth L. Govendo ordered Masga not to leave the family compound unless he is going to court under the supervision of his third party custodians — his sister and a nephew.

Assistant Attorney General Peter B. Prestley who is prosecuting the case, opposed Masga’s release, arguing that “the defendant does not have any way of supporting him besides engaging in criminal activity.”

Masga poses a “significant flight risk” because he is facing a minimum 25 years’ imprisonment, Prestley added.

Assistant Public Defender Richard Miller filed the motion to modify Masga’s bail.

On April 12, 2011, the prosecution said a cooperating source bought “ice” from Masga.
