In an email to Variety, Daly said, “After nine years and new owners coming in, it was time to move on with my family and get my children educated back in Australia.”
Asked by Variety how long he had been contemplating on this decision, Daly said, “The current owners of PIC asked that I stay on another three years and that term came to an end December 2010, so any time after that.”
Variety asked Dalywhether he’ll transfer to another hotel in Australia, Daly replied, “Not at this stage. I will be traveling around Europe for a few months and then returning to Australia to spend time with my family and friends.”
Sometime in October 2010, this reporter was tipped on a possible shakeup in the management of both PIC Guam and Saipan. This reporter was told both general managers Bartley A. Jackson and Daly were leaving.
Now, seven months down the road, Variety finally confirmed this to be true.
Jackson, the current chairman of the Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association, was reported to have filed his letter of resignation May 31.
His letter stated, “It is with mixed emotions that I announce my departure from PIC….My intention is to remain on Guam and pursue opportunities where I can use my business contacts and management experience.”
He said he has spent 21 years “doing what I love to do, working with great people and helping create the best hospitality product in the region.”
This reporter tried inquiring last year with Daly if there was truth to the rumor that he was leaving. He confirmed his wife’s return to Australia but denied he’s leaving Saipan.
Asked if he could confirm the sale of PIC to Ken Corp., Daly replied in an email on June 1, “Yes.”
PIC staff surprised Daly with a party May 31 at the hotel.
Daly, who is leaving Saipan on June 16, said he will miss most “the people, the genuine friendships, and the PIC staff.”
