The Mass is being held to recognize and commemorate the initial Mass held 72 years ago in celebration of Guam’s patron saint, Santa Marian Kamalin, which was halted due to the island being bombed by Japanese aircraft.
The special Mass will be held at 7:30 a.m.
The Guam War Survivors Memorial Foundation and the Archdiocese of Hagåtña has teamed up with the 31st Guam Legislature and Delegate Madeleine Bordallo to put this event together, said Sen. Frank Blas Jr., president of the foundation.
“Because we did not want to take away from the continuing celebration of the Feast of Santa Marian Kamalin, and to keep the time frame the 1941 Mass was taking place, we decided to hold the Mass in the morning,” said Blas.
The general public, all WWII survivors and their families and family members of WWII survivors who have passed on are invited to the special Mass, Blas said. A light breakfast will be served in the Plaza de España afterward.
