Joanne Ogo, CCA program coordinator, said they are inviting cancer survivors to the group’s Jan. 26 meeting which will discuss a series of forums.
The meeting will start at 5 p.m. and will be held in the Chamolinian Room of the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Ogo said they have recorded 60 cancer survivors who registered for the Marianas March Against Cancer last year.
But, she added, there were 200 other survivors who preferred not to be recognized.
CCA, a non-profit organization, continues its campaign for early detection examination, and provides assistance of up to $500 every year to cancer patients in the CNMI.
At least 20 patients received assistance like dietary supplements, diapers and the loan of hospital equipment, Ogo said.
“But CCA does not cover medication, surgical procedures, radiation or chemotherapy,” she added.
CCA plans to invite professionals to the group’s meetings to discuss the needs of cancer patients, and other relevant topics, she said.
These meetings will also encourage exchange information about cancer and its treatment, she added.
“We want to offer encouragement to one another; to share other ways and means to cope with the disease; and most importantly, to develop new relationships with other cancer survivors. We will also talk about diagnosis, treatment, comfort measures, nutritional supplements and wound-care products,” she said
