MHS no longer allows unannounced guests

“We are not allowing unannounced visitors to come inside the school especially during breaktime,” she told Variety. “The intent is to minimize the outsiders and visitors we have on campus.”

This reporter was not allowed by the school’s security personnel to enter MHS during lunch break.

Bermudes said this has always been their policy but it was never fully enforced.

She said only “unannounced” visits of parents, teachers and principals are allowed by MHS as these are about the students and other school-related issues.

According to Bermudes, the “security measure” has nothing to do with the recent incident on campus involving three students who killed the MHS security guard and stole computers from the classrooms.

“We just want to make sure that the kids are safe,” she said. “When we started the new school year, we looked at things we needed to improve and enforce…and it’s always been our policy and rule on campus: minimize the number of visitors especially during breaktime.”

She said upper-class students, are allowed to go out of campus provided they have permits from their parents, Bermudez said.

“We need the parents’ permission,” she added. “Students must have a permit to leave our campus so our school is not liable for the duration of that time.”

She noted that the school doesn’t have enough security personnel.
