MHS principal Craig Garrison said their Building T is currently undergoing renovations.
He believes, however, that the school is not receiving its fair share of the funds.
“The project at Building T was underbid,” Garrison told Variety.
Although he could not specify the exact amount of the award from the ARRA grant, Garrison said the school was granted a certain amount but not all of it is being used to renovate the school.
“I wonder where the money is ending up. The school was already awarded the money before I came in as principal so I’m left with just a plate of questions,” he added.
Saipan Southern High School principal Jesse Tudela said their renovations are going smoothly.
“We’ve had numerous contractors over the past few months. We have not encountered very serious problems,” Tudela told Variety.
He said their school will be receiving 190 solar panels and six 90-foot wind turbines as a part of their Green Energy project.
The solar panels and turbines have been made available to their school through a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy.
“Our products are slowly coming in and installation should commence next month. We are currently still under environmental assessment, however.
After we’ve received all permits to continue with our Green Energy project and all products are in, installation will start,” Tudela added.
