MOBIL Oil Marianas on Monday raised its fuel prices by 10 cents.

Mobil Oil increased its regular gas price to $5.76 a gallon from $5.66 a gallon; premium gas to $6.21 a gallon from $6.11 a gallon; and diesel to $6.18 a gallon from $6.08 a gallon.

Shell Marianas is expected to follow suit.

Following the last fuel price hike earlier this month, Tinian Fuel Services’ regular gas price was $7.50 a gallon while its diesel price was $7.89 a gallon.

On Sept. 6, 2023, Calvo Enterprises on Rota increased its regular gas price to $7.14 a gallon from $7.09 a gallon, and its diesel price to $10.17 a gallon from $10.07 a gallon.

A fisherman on Saipan told Variety: “I feel not really good because I use a boat to go fishing, and when the gas price goes up the cost of my fishing activity goes up too.”

He said he uses up to $50 worth of gas for one fishing trip to the waters off Marpi before heading back to the Garapan Fishing Base.

The Guardian newspaper on Sunday reported that oil prices “are on track to reach $100 a barrel this month for the first time in 2023 after surging by almost 30% since June, after Russian and Saudi Arabian production cuts and rising demand from China.”

According to The Guardian, “Brent crude, the oil price benchmark, rose to a 10-month high…of almost $94 a barrel, up from $72 a barrel at its lowest point in June — heading for its biggest quarterly increase since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”

As for the lighter U.S. crude, West Texas Intermediate, it has “climbed from $67 a barrel to $90 a barrel over the same period. Both benchmarks were up by about 4% on the week.”
