Mobil to upgrade Tinian facilities

Gennaro Cioffi, Mobil president, said they expect to complete the upgrading project on Guam and the CNMI in the fourth quarter of this year.

“Again, we regret that the supply of gasoline to Tinian was affected as a result of a delay in the arrival of our tanker due to bad weather conditions,” he said, referring to the incident on Aug. 6, 7 and 8 when Tinian ran out of gas.

He said the upgrade of their facilities on Tinian will better meet the energy needs of the community.

When the project is completed, Mobil will be able to hold sufficient fuel to supply the needs of the Tinian community for about 45 days, Cioffi said in an e-mail.

On average, he added, Mobil’s tanker discharges fuel on Tinian every 30 days.

Cioffi said safety is a core value in all their operations which include the facilities where Mobil operate.

“We aim to protect the safety of our employees and others involved in our operations, our customers and the community,” he said.

Mobil is committed to operating in a way that protects the environment, he added.

Many factors can impact the supply of fuel to Tinian, such as bad weather conditions, he said.

Whenever the weather conditions are bad, he said the protection of the environment and the safety of those involved in their operations and the community will be their first priority.
