Citing the importance of the revitalization program, Camacho said the council invited the Department of Public Works to be part of the effort.
“The vision is to begin small at an identified pilot village and incrementally expand to other villages as part of building sustainable capacity at the village level,” he said.
Camacho said the council is implementing a “citizen-drive life transforming initiative” to develop a sustainable local capacity at the village so residents will value the resources in their area.
The community members, he said, can participate by partaking in the preservation and promotion of the unique historic assets in their villages.
They can also help promote environmental stewardship and enhance the physical and cultural characteristics of the village, Camacho added.
“The goal is to build sustainable capacity in the village for residents to be able to continue this project as part of the overall neighborhood revitalization and enhancement program throughout Saipan,” he told DPW Secretary Martin Sablan in a letter.
Camacho said they want the program to focus also on the health, safety and security of the villages.
This will allow residents to build and nurture a vibrant community for trade and commerce that can provide local employment and other economic opportunities for the neighborhood, he added.
Camacho said they also invited DPW to join Neighborhood Watch Task Force meetings.
