CUC Executive Director Antonio Muna said they will purchase two new generators to provide Rota with an additional 5 megawatts.
The Rota Casino Gaming Commission said the Rota Treasure Island Casino at the Rota Hotel will open on Oct. 10.
Muna said CUC has already stopped buying power from Rota Resort & Country Club after the agency’s two engines from Saipan arrived last June.
CUC bought power from Rota Resort at $0.56 per kwh which was sold at $0.28 to the agency’s customers.
The two engines were pulled out from Saipan’s Power Plant 4 and were officially commissioned last June 25 on Rota.
CUC pulled out the two engines from PP4 because of the shortage of power on Rota.
But Muna said they have already solved Rota’s problem.
Rota’s power demand is 1.7 megawatts, he added.
In a separate interview, Senate President Paul A. Manglona, Ind.-Rota, said the arrival of the new generators will result in a stable power supply on their island.
He is also hoping that the repair of CUC’s two engines on Rota will be completed soon.
