Last Saturday, the NMC Foundation held its annual golf tournament at the Saipan Laolao Bay Golf and Resort.
“We are overwhelmed by the show of support by all these businesses,” NMC Foundation president Ben Babauta said.
More than 80 businesses backed the 8th Annual NMC Foundation Golf Open.
The business firms donated educational tax credit dollars, cash, or in-kind prizes.
“We are also extremely grateful for the NMC students, staff, faculty and community members who participated in the event by volunteering,” Babauta said.
The tournament, the organization’s signature event, aims to raise critical funds to support NMC’s academic programs and services.
“I applaud these companies for making considerable contributions despite the economic difficulties that many businesses are experiencing,” Babauta said.
“We are also extremely grateful for the NMC students, staff, faculty and community members who participated in the event by volunteering,” he added.
There were 150 golfers —the maximum number — who played in the tournament. A day before the event, the registration for golfers had to be closed because the maximum number of golfers had already been reached.
The NMC Foundation is a non-profit organization whose goal is to raise funds to support Northern Marianas College, the CNMI’s lone post-secondary educational institution.
The organization is composed of individuals who are dedicated and committed to ensuring that CNMI students receive the utmost support in pursuing their educational goals.
Recently, the NMC Foundation funded the purchase of state-of-the art computer equipment and network infrastructure and classroom furniture for NMC’s Building M, which houses the English Language Lab and the
English Language Institute. The lab is one of the most-used facilities on campus.
The NMC Foundation also awarded several scholarships to students who were pursuing their degrees.
Other fundraising events that the NMC Foundation sponsored include the Augie Tulba comedy concert and the Kaba Modern Dance Crew show.
“We will continue to step up our fundraising efforts to support the college and its mission to help our students meet their educational goals,” Babauta said.
