Museum, Humanities Council renew call for digitalization of post-war photos

NMI Museum of History and Culture Executive Director Robert Hunter said some individuals have already submitted post-war family photos and pictures to add to the museum’s digitalization project and to the database of the CNMI Humanities Council.

“We have received some photos, but we are still calling on the community to submit pictures that could tell anything and help us complete the missing parts of our collection,” Hunter said.

“From time to time, we will be renewing our call to the community,” he said.

Hunter earlier said  the current database of the museum had pictures taken during the Japanese period and World War II.

He said the museum and the Humanities Council will not keep the photos but they will just scan and return  them to the families.

The contributors will be given digitalized copies which he said is the best way to make the photos permanent.

Hunter said the museum will handle with utmost care photos that are too old and are in danger of being tampered if touched.

The aim of the digitalization project is to compile photos that tell the stories of ordinary people after the war.

For more information or to contribute photos, call the museum at 664-2160.
