MVA applauds honesty acts at visitor sites

Based on recent reports from security services in the area, island residents and employees have helped returned a number of cell phones, digital cameras, and other lost valuables to their rightful owners.

“The fact that a visitor can loss an item worth hundreds of dollars…and then have it returned by a good Samaritan…is one small way visitors experience the “hafa adai-tirow spirit” that makes our islands are a great place to visit,”  said MVA Managing Director Perry Tenorio.

MVA provides security services at Banzai Cliff, Bird Island, Grotto, Laulau Beach and Obyan Beach.  Recent recoveries include a digital camera lost by a Japanese diver at Laulau Beach and later recovered and returned to the owner by Akihiro Nakanishi of S-2 Dive shop.  Another recent recovery was a black bag left at Obyan Beach and returned by security officers to the owner at Ladera International School.

“We cannot begin to thank the many residents on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota who deserve to be recognized for the important role they play as individuals and families to make visitors feel welcomed,” said Tenorio.  “As a community, this makes a huge impression about why our islands are a wonderful place.”

Individuals who find or lose valuables at any of the five sites listed are encouraged to inquire with the security guard on duty or Marianas Visitors Authority.
