MVA: Bidding on tourist sites renovation projects to begin in June

THE bidding for the Bird Island Lookout and other tourist site renovation projects in Marpi will begin in June, Marianas Visitors Authority Chairwoman Gloria Cavanagh said.

“The architectural renderings for the Bird Island Lookout, Suicide Cliff, and a brand-new restroom at the Last Command Post…have been completed,” she said in an interview Wednesday.

She said MVA will issue an Invitation to Bid for the renovation projects by next month.

“And so that’s when the construction companies come in and they make a bid, and…hopefully by July we will award [contracts], and it will probably take about a year in order for it to be completed,” Cavanagh said, referring to the renovation projects.

In 2023, MVA announced that it received a $1.4 million grant from the Economic Development Administration to fund new railings, new steps, a lookout deck, and paved, organized parking at Bird Island Lookout and Suicide Cliff, as well as to build a brand-new restroom at the Last Command Post.
