Duncan, in a letter, hailed Tenorio citing his “long standing record of public service is testament to your dedication to the people of the commonwealth. As a negotiator who helped craft the Covenant forging the bond between the U.S. and the NMI, as a two-term lt. governor and now as the resident representative to the U.S., you have already shown that you possess the qualities of an elected official who gets the job done.”
Tenorio is the delegate candidate of the local GOP, which is already affiliated with the national party.
According to Duncan, the RNC is pleased to officially support and endorse Tenorio’s candidacy.
“This is an historic occasion for your islands as it is the very first time the people of CNMI are exercising their right, as Americans, to send a delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives,” Duncan said.
He lauded Tenorio’s presence, with the other CNMI Republicans, in the GOP national convention held in Minneapolis last August.
“It was through the hard work of loyal Republicans like you that the convention proved a tremendous success,” Duncan said.
Local Republican Party President Ed Tenorio said the RNC endorsement is a big step for the CNMI.
He said the local GOP is the only nationally recognized party from the CNMI.
“We can finally get our agenda and our needs presented on the national stage. Party affiliation is extremely important in Washington and Pete A. is recognized by the RNC as a leader who get things done,” Ed Tenorio said.
