Neighborhood Watch Task Force to distribute anti-crime posters, stickers

During their recent meeting, officials of the Neighborhood Watch Task Force finalized the design and message of their anti-crime posters and stickers.

The goal is to help create a crime-free village, the task force said.

Former Rep. William S. Torres, task force consultant, said the posters will indicate that there is ongoing surveillance in the area.

“So the people will be aware that they are being watched,” he added.

Tanapag block captain Sebastian Tajibmai suggested displaying the posters at street corners.

Some will also be posted outside residential houses.

The task force said it is trying to bring in more members in response to the series of burglaries in the villages.

Torres said the task force has been receiving calls from Kagman about daylight burglaries.

“This is very disturbing,” he said, as he urged the Department of Public Safety to assign  officers to the area.

Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council Chairman Ramon B. Camacho said he noticed one police officer patrolling Kagman.

DPS recently transferred its police station from the Kagman fire station to the Kagman Community Center.

A former police major, Camacho said the public cannot always rely on the department’s limited manpower.

This is why the task force should educate the community members about the role they should play in the fight against criminals, he added.

Glenn Dikito, a Kagman block captain, said they continue to recruit new members during the weekly street market in their village
