Netanyahu responds to Torres invitation

The response came from the prime minister’s senior adviser, Ron Dermer, who told Torres that Netanyahu could not accept the lawmaker’s invitation.

Torres, Ind.-Saipan, said he was thankful that the leader of a country he admires a lot  responded to his letter.

Dermer, in his letter to Torres said, “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked me to thank you for your letter and a kind letter of solidarity and support.”

The prime minister, Dermer added, would have welcomed the opportunity to visit the CNMI and meet with “such warm and steadfast friends of Israel.”

But “we regret that the heavy demands on his schedule render him unable to accept your invitation.”

“We extend warm greetings from Jerusalem to the people of the Mariana Islands and thank you again for you friendship,” Dermer told Torres.

Last March, Torres sent Netanyahu an invitation letter along with a picture of the lawmaker waving the Israeli flag.

“I fly this flag to honor the indomitable spirit of the Israeli people and their willingness to fly in the face of convention to protect and grow your beleaguered state,” Torres said in his letter.
