New DPS Web site aims to help curb crimes

“With the launching of the Web site, we are giving the community a chance to contact us to report crimes,” DPS Commissioner Claudio K. Norita said during the press conference yesterday noon.

Norita said service improvement and giving the community access to DPS are the goals of their Web site.

This is long overdue and we need this to keep the public abreast with what we do at DPS,” Norita said.

He added that the new Web site will give the community an opportunity to provide information and comments on how DPS can improve its services.

The new Web site, he said, will also allow the community to download necessary forms like an application or renewal of driver’s license, vehicle registration, firearms permit and others document.

He said anybody can access the Web site, and it will be updated in real time.

Daniel Camacho of CD Consulting Services said the Web site is a user-friendly site with links to all the agencies under DPS.

Camacho said the sections of the Web site include the commissioner’s office, the police division, the fire division, the criminal investigation division, the motor vehicles bureau, Rota, Tinian and a DPS Memorial where officers who have died are given tribute.

“We are going through the final touches of the feature in the Web site where anybody can report a crime so they remain anonymous,” Camacho said.

“Anybody can fill out a form, report a crime with all the details without fear that they will be identified,” he added.

The site also provides a link to the Crime Stoppers as well as other government agencies.

Crime statistics, budgets, grants and other concerns will be uploaded to the Web site.

The Web site is already up and running and Camacho said they are updating the site with information they receive every hour.

Roxanne Diaz, also of CD Consulting Services. said the launching of the new Web site will allow the community to easily conduct transactions with DPS.

“It’s time consuming if you hop from one building and from one department to another,” she said. “The Web site is actually a one-stop shop where you can do your transactions online.”

The Web site is also a way for the community to get to know the different agencies of DPS, she added.

The Web site costs $2,700 for the initial development and setup plus. There is also a monthly fee for the Web site hosting, technical support and real time updates.
