NMC completes program survey

According to a statement from the office of the NMC president, the quarterly updates for the first cycle of program review have been submitted and will be reviewed this month.

The status of NMC’s program review was also included in the recent presentation of college President Carmen Fernandez to the accrediting commission when she met its officials last week.

She informed the commission that the survey was conducted to assess the first cycle of the program and the results were being compiled for review by the Planning, Program Review, and Assessment Outcomes Committee.

A faculty assembly was convened to discuss the success criteria of the survey. NMC employees earlier underwent a training on assessment tools.

The accrediting panel is expected to make a decision on NMC’s accreditation status this month after it placed the college on show-cause status in Jan. 2008.

This status required NMC to explain why its accreditation should not be revoked.

Fernandez, in a statement, said the college is fully accredited even during the show-cause period and all academic credits and degrees from NMC will remain accredited and will be transferable to other accredited institutions.

In San Francisco,  she reported that NMC was in the midst of a professional development training week and that the newly published “Institutional Guide” describing the college’s governance structure was disseminated to all employees.

She said the college’s Strategic Plan Year 1 first quarter results have also been submitted and will be reviewed by the Planning, Program Review, and Assessment Outcomes Committee.

Fernandez also discussed the updates regarding key NMC positions that need to be filled — these include the posts of the financial and the administrative officer.

“Overall, the meeting went well,” said Fernandez. “Although we won’t know the commission’s decision until later this month, I want to stress that NMC remains fully accredited during the show-cause period.”
