The committee initially received 12 applications which were narrowed down to four based on the qualifications listed in the vacancy announcement.
The four finalists were interviewed last week, the college said.
“The Presidential Search Committee has nearly completed its task of helping to vet prospective candidates for the position of president of Northern Marianas College,” NMC said.
The committee will forward the list of the final candidates to the board of regents in the next few days.
The search process started on June, 2 when the board appointed the members of the committee.
The committee sought and received comments from community members regarding the qualifications the new president should have.
The committee also held public forums and other activities to ensure that the search process was open and transparent, NMC said.
The college said when the results of the interview are finalized, the finalists’ names will be forwarded to the board, which will make the selection.
“The candidates who were selected locally have been interviewed on Saipan and those from off-island are being interviewed by telephone,” NMC said.
The committee is confident that the process will be completed by the middle of October.
“All the members of the Presidential Search Committee have invested much of their time and effort to ensure that the search process was efficient and carried out with wide community input,” said its acting chairman, Ed Camacho.
Once the names of the final candidates are transmitted to the board, the regents will also conduct additional interviews and public forums before a final selection is made, he added.
