She said the people gave Fitial another chance to prove his worth and he must not waste it.
But some students who supported Republican Rep. Heinz S. Hofschneider said they were disappointed by the results of the runoff.
An education student, who refused to be identified, said he is related to Fitial through the Reyes clan, but supported the governor’s opponent.
“I’m done with him and I feel sorry for the people who voted for him for they don’t know what they just did,” he said.
He said the people should have “learned from the bad things happening to the island these past four years.”
He cited, as an example, the problems at the Commonwealth Health Center which, he said, could have been fixed and avoided if Fitial is really a good leader.
“Why should he wait for everything to turn bad before thinking of solutions?” he asked.
But he said he no longer has any choice but to hope that Fitial “will fix the mess with the help of the federal government,” which will take over local immigration this Saturday.
Five other students who supported the governor said they were confident that Fitial would win even before the runoff.
“He deserves to finish what he started,” one of the students said.
All of the students interviewed by this reporter are hoping that the economy will get better next year.
“I hope that there will be less price hikes, electricity surcharges and that the problems with the doctors of CHC will be settled,” Palacios said.
