NMC to host Free Cash for College workshop

The workshop will help students obtain college education financial aid.

“The past two Cash for College workshops were a great success, and we look forward for another big turnout,” NMC interim President Lorraine T. Cabrera said.

“Many of the participants from the previous workshops are now receiving thousands of dollars in assistance as they pursue higher education,” she added.

This year’s one-day free workshop will be held on Saturday, June 19, at the college’s Building A from 9 a.m. to 3 p. m.

Those who attend the workshop will receive personal, step-by-step assistance in completing college financial aid forms for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the Saipan Higher Education Financial Aid, the CNMI scholarship programs, and other scholarships, Cabrera said.

Staff members from the college’s Office of Admissions and Records will be present to provide information and assistance with the NMC application process.

Cabrera said workshop participants will be eligible to have their application and placement test fees waived for the Fall 2010 semester.

Although not required for admission to the workshop, participants are encouraged to bring valid forms of identification like passport, birth certificate, an official transcript from high school (at least three official copies), tax forms, and proof of CNMI residency for 2008 and 2009, including proof of continuing residency.

Applicants for SHEFA must bring a voter registration card.

The workshop is made possible by the financial support of the U.S. Department of Education’s College Access hallenge Grant Program.
