THE Democratic Party of the Northern Mariana Islands will host its presidential primary from March 5 to 12 on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.
The primaries will be the first step in the CNMI’s participation in this nationwide process, and during this time, not only will Democrats elect their presidential nominee, they will also elect delegates to the August 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
Details about the primaries on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota will be announced soon.
As of today, four candidates have qualified for the DPNMI Presidential Primary ballot.
1) President Joseph R. Biden Jr.
2) Jason M. Palmer
3) Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota
4) Marianne Williamson
DPNMI Party Chairman Jonathan Cabrera welcomes the four candidates, and encourages all Democrats to participate in the upcoming primary.
“Back in 2020, the Democratic race for the presidency began with 20-plus candidates. With several candidates conceding, we also began with four before narrowing it down to two candidates come caucus showtime. This will be the NMI’s first ever primary, and we are delighted to host all interested presidential candidates because we are Democrats, too, and our elections are just as significant,” said DPNMI Executive Director Nola Hix.
Details will be forthcoming, and all interested participants should visit www.nmidems.org to register as a Democrat. Interested participants can learn more about this year’s delegate selection plan by visiting the party’s website, and all inquiries can be addressed to info@nmidems.org/.
