The 28-foot trailer is set arrive in the next two months, according to Robert Florian, procurement officer of the CNMI Homeland Security Office.
The trailer is equipped with tents and other portable features of a field hospital.
It was obtained by the CNMI through a federal grant for the Commonwealth Health Center’s hazardous materials emergency response program.
The field hospital costs $414,000, Florian said.
He added the trailer will be converted into an air-conditioned hospital that has 48 beds for patients.
It will have an electric supply and other amenities necessary for conducting medical procedures on patients.
The field hospital, Florian said, is to be utilized when “something terrible happens like nuclear or biological incidents or natural disasters.”
Once the trailer arrives, Florian said U.S. Homeland Security will send two experts to train local personnel who will operate the field hospital.
