Sablan, PSS federal programs coordinator Tim Thornbough and finance officer Ed Tenorio went to the nation’s capital last week to attend a briefing session about the stimulus package.
They joined other education officials from states and insular areas in a meeting with Education Secretary Arne Duncan.
Sablan said they were told that the American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam and CNMI will receive a total of $268 million from the stimulus package.
The funding allocations are based on population and other important demographic factors.
The U.S. Department of Education said the federal funds should allow the school districts to save and create jobs, ensure transparency and accountability and advance reforms,
