(NMTech) — The Northern Marianas Technical Institute is proud to announce the successful completion of their two summer CNMI PSS and NMTech Dual-Enrollment programs.
The 2025 Summer Tech program ran from June 23 to July 25. This hands-on, skills-based summer initiative introduced students aged 11 to 17 to in-demand trades through focused instruction in Carpentry and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning).
The other program, Trading-Up: Core, which ran from June 16 to July 31, provided students with a comprehensive introduction to basic safety knowledge, the use of hand and power tools, and understanding construction math and drawings.
This program aimed to equip young learners with the necessary skills to safely and effectively engage in various construction tasks. The curriculum emphasized the importance of safety in the workplace, ensuring that students learned to operate tools correctly and confidently.
This year’s program brought together aspiring students from across the CNMI, offering them an opportunity to explore vocational education through engaging, age-appropriate training.
Over five weeks, students from Tinian Jr./Sr. High School, Dr. Rita Hocog Jr./Sr. High School, Kagman High School, Da’ok Academy, Dandan Middle School, Chacha Oceanview Middle School, Marianas High School, and Saipan Southern High School gained foundational knowledge and practical skills in their chosen trade, working with NMTech instructors in a supportive and safe learning environment.
“We’re excited to have provided a platform where our youth can explore future career paths and develop real-world skills,” said Jodina Attao, chief executive officer of NMTech. “Programs like Summer Tech and Trading-Up: Core are vital in introducing our students to the value of the skilled trades and helping them discover their potential early on.”
The Carpentry course introduced students to basic woodworking, measuring, and tool safety, while the HVAC course covered the fundamentals of air conditioning systems, installation techniques, and energy efficiency. In both courses, students completed hands-on projects that reinforced learning and teamwork.
NMTech extends its appreciation to the instructors, staff, families, chaperones, and community partners who contributed to the program’s success. NMTech looks forward to their continued partnership with the CNMI PSS and expanding Summer Tech and Trading-Up: Core in future years to include more trades and opportunities for CNMI’s next generation of builders, technicians, and innovators.
